FREEBIE FRIDAY: CVC Word Building

Yup, I know it's Saturday :(
I tried to get this posted yesterday but......

Anyway, here it is.
This is one of the very first products I ever made.
So it needed A LOT of updating.

It's a great word building activity for your students
who are working on CVC words.
It was designed to focus on the letter "b" but
can really be used for any CVC words.
Just print out the letter tiles that you want
 your students to practice.

It comes with 3 different work mats,
letter tiles,
a recording sheet,
and a possible word list.

Click on the picture to get your FREE copy.
And Happy Saturday!

Run the Race

I love that the Bible is so relatable.
That we can find so many different topics in
the Bible that address whatever we need at the time
(& that includes fun topics like SPORTS).

Several years ago, I did a whole sports theme
in my classroom. As I was preparing it for
my public school classroom, God allowed me to
write this unit even though I was not able to use
it at the time.

RUN the RACE
focuses on Hebrews 12:1-2 where Paul
compares the discipleship journey
to a race as well as the understanding that intense training
& discipline produces strength & endurance.
It includes an original rhyming story that I wrote,
that can be printed and made into a class booklet.

*poster version of the story

*devotion plans

*Hall of Faith matching activity
with cut and paste recording sheet
and answer key

*Help? or Hinder? situation cards
with a writing activity

*Sports in the Bible activity
with Scripture references to look up
matching activity
recording sheet & answer key

*word search page

*Eternal Crowns activity
Scripture references to look up
matching activity
recording sheet
poster (also answer key)

*other verses related to sports
(Clink any of the pictures to head to my store.)
I pray that this unit will be helpful
as you share God's Word with your students.

Noah's Ark

Who doesn't love the story of Noah?
You know the cute part with all the sweet animals
floating along happily on the boat?

Do you think it was really like that?
Can you imagine?
The true sounds and smells of so many animals
all together in one place?

I don't know so much about the cute and sweet part,
but I do know that Noah was obedient to God
even when God asked him to do something strange
that would mean something awful for so many.

When teaching the story of Noah in class,
I certainly use the cute and sweet images,
but it's important to get students to the reality of what
was truly going on.

If you are ready to teach Noah,
your timing is just right for my updated learning packet
(and a FREEBIE).
It's a HUGE packet with over 90 pages and 16 activites
including reading, language arts, math, science, etc.

One of the activities is a memory verse puzzle
The verse is Genesis 6:22.
It's a fun way to help your students learn the verse.

Here's a sneek peek at the whole packet.
And now the FREEBIE....
It's a making words activity that practices "ar" words.
Click on the preview below to get your copy.
I hope you find something helpful here
as you get ready to teach the story of Noah to your kids.

A Little Bathroom Reading :)

Don't deny it, everyone reads in the bathroom.
Although many people no longer take the newspaper with them,
they do take their cell phones.

Because that's a common occurance for almost all people,
it makes sense to use it to your advantage especially
if you are trying to get little people to practice their reading.
This is a picture of my sweet friend Karen's restroom at school.

Her philosophy is,
"if you're going to sit in there for any amount of time,
we should put that time to good use!"

Yes, it's funny, but it's also genius.
Catch learning moments wherever you can!

Yo Ho Ho!

"Yo ho ho, we're so cool.
We are pirates and we love school."

The last week of April is Pirate Week in our corner of the world and this post has been sitting in my computer since then. I was out sick the month of May and just never got around to finishing this. But it was too much fun to forget about.

Our town has a huge festival every year on the 1st weekend in May (Shrimp Festival)
and the week leading up to it is "all things PIRATE."

Classes all over our school read pirate books, made pirates, walked and talked like pirates,
and even dressed like pirates on Thursday
(because that Friday is a day off for us:) How many of you have a Pirate Day holiday?!)

In our classroom we started the week with the book Pirates Go To School.
My kids all picked out which pirate they wanted to be.....
the one with no shoes, the one that smells of rotten fish, the peg legged one, and the girls all said they just wanted to be a girl pirate.

And what do pirates know ALL about? maps, of course.
So we spent most of our time that week reviewing our map skills.

We used this super cute packet from Primary Paradise.
It comes with a power point to show your students.
It features 2 characters (with really cute names that I'm not going to tell you)
and they tell you all about maps......

In order to keep my students focused, I divided the class and put boys on one side
and girls on the other.  I had my kids read the power point. The boys read with the boy pirate and the girls read with the girl pirate and of course I made them use their pirate voices (funny).

Next, we completed the practice maps that came with the packet.
There are basic maps and grid maps to check their understanding.
They were fun and the kids hardly felt like they were working:)

The end of the week was the best part for them.
We used the template that is included to have them draw their own maps.
They were free to draw whatever setting they wanted but they had to include
a title, map key, symbols and a compass rose.

Then we made the cute pirate craft that goes with it.
Here are a few of ours:)
It was a fun week with a shipful of learning!
