Happy 2024!

I know many of you have already headed back to school.

We are going back this morning.

I wanted to pass along a little encouragement and a prayer using 1 Corinthians 15:58 to help us refocus as we go back.

God, help us to celebrate the ministry that You have called us to. Help us to celebrate victories large and small. Help us to celebrate the fact that You choose to use us in Your work. Give us the energy and perseverance to work unto You, setting an example of Your faithfulness to our students and co-laborers in the ministry. May we be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of this ministry, knowing that in the Lord our labor is not in vain. Amen!

Bible Review with Headbands

Well, we're back in full swing around here.

We're on week 3 of Bible study already,

but I wanted to share our first week back.

This year I'm teaching 3rd - 5th grade Bible.

I've had most of these kids since the 1st grade.

We use the Gospel Project curriculum

which walks them all the way through the Bible.

I knew that I needed to review during our first class

and it was a lot to cover.

So, what they thought was a game

turned into a really great and fun review.

My adult kids and I have game night regularly at my house

and HEADBANDS is one of our favorites.

So instead of just talking at my students,

we played Headbands Bible Review.

I simply attached a card with topics that I wanted them to review. They started shouting out clues to help me guess what was on my head. I pretended to not know until I got all the facts that I wanted from them. I "guessed" what was on my head and then moved on to the next card. The game also helped me clear up misconceptions (for example, if they said "she's married to Joseph" I would say "it's Mary" and they would yell "no").

It was soooo much fun!

I felt like it was a great review and the next week we were able to jump straight into our new lessons for the year.

We have also used Bible word cards to play Pictionary and Charades. All of them are good ways to review or just practice any words or topics that you need to.

First Week of Bible Study

Are you still laying on the beach somewhere?

Well, we are right in the middle of our
first full week of school,

and our first week of Bible Study.

We aren't starting our full curriculum until next week,

so I made a fun activity to get us started.

I wanted them to start thinking of people/stories
they already knew from the Bible,

and how every story in the Bible points to Jesus.

So I made this cross with familiar Bible people/stories.
I made several copies (for small groups of students)
and cut them into pieces for a puzzle.

I had the kids work together to assemble their puzzle.

When they finished, we discussed what they knew

based on the pictures on the cross.

It was so great!

Everyone had something to contribute.

Even students who knew very little about the Bible

were able to talk about "the Baby Jesus"

or the "boat with the animals in the flood".

And then other students were able to

fill in almost all of the details.

I left them with a black and white version

to take home and color.

It was a great kickoff to Bible Study for the year.

A Brand New Story.....

Teachers in my district are all heading back to school today,
and for the first time in 25 years.....I am not.
If I'm honest I have to say that I'm
a whole lot thrilled that I don't have all of that work
weighing me down,
but I'm also a little anxious
(wondering if I will have enough coffee money).

In all seriousness, the bottom line is #faithwalking.

At the end of the school year,
Steve and I felt like God was releasing me from full-time teaching.
So I turned in my notice.

While we have no idea what's next,
we do know that HE will let us know.

In the meantime,
I'm thankful to finally have time to focus on my writing
and my TpT business.

Today starts a brand new story for me.
I absolutely cannot wait to see how HE writes it.

"My calling is to press my face into the shoulder blades of Jesus
so that wherever HE leads I will go."
